Purpose of the Center

The BTU Professional Development Center was established in 1987 as a union operated venue to provide professional development for teachers and PSRPs based upon their assessed perceptions of needed assistance to help them meet the educational needs of their students. To accomplish this, the center provides an environment in which both groups will grow professionally and intellectually through formal and informal interactions with peers, and in structured education experiences, workshops, seminars, conferences, and small and large group activities. The center offerings are designed to provide professional and educational growth opportunities outside of the regular school day hours. Workshops, AU courses and credit-bearing courses are offered throughout the school-year.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Baltimore Teachers Union (BTU) Professional Development Center is to provide opportunities for teachers and paraprofessionals to enhance their professional and educational growth in order to increase their abilities to more effectively meet the needs of the diverse population of the students they teach.
