There have been exciting changes made on the Joint Governing Panel (JGP). Don’t know what that is? The JGP is a team composed of two BTU-appointed members and one District-appointed member (Anne Claire Nornhold Tejtel) whose charge is to oversee teacher career pathway movement. Our Union JGP team has new members!
We want to thank LaBrina Hopkins, Yvette Turner and the other former JGP members (the size of the JGP has been pared down over the years) for their decade of work in establishing the Teacher Career Pathway system. Baltimore City Public School System’s Standard, Professional, Model, and Lead Pathways and the corresponding AU system was a brand new idea ten years ago and needed to be created from scratch.
Our new appointees, Kimberly Mooney and Angela Campbell, will be tasked with clarifying the rubrics associated with pathway movement and AU evaluation, creating new opportunities for teacher growth (new AU project offerings), and supporting teachers so that more of our members are able to be recognized for the hard work they are doing every day.
To that end, the JGP is offering several workshops to kick off their work:
(1) There will be a recruitment and training workshop for Union Learning Reps (ULRs) offered (tentatively) on October 2nd. Learn more about being a ULR here.
(2) There will be two introductory workshops for members on the Professional Pathway who are interested in applying for Model Teacher this year. One of the workshops will be for educators who submitted portfolios previously and would like help to re-apply. The other will be for educators who are submitting for the first time. The workshops will take place in September (date TBD). Ongoing support will be offered throughout the school year until the portfolio submission deadline.
